Goodnight Freddy

I have something blasphemous to say: I am not a BYU Basketball fan.

I was born and raised an Aztec. My dad has worked at San Diego State all my life and I've been to more basketball games than I can count. Needless to say, tonight's game was rough. It was a good game though, both teams put up a good fight and I'm okay with the results.

But. I have something more blasphemous to say: I don't like Jimmer Fredette.

Before you say 'sore loser' or 'don't you know he's the number 2 ranked point guard in the nation?' or 'he scored 43 points at tonight's game and you're an idiot', the answers are no, yes, and no.

I respect Fredette because he really is a remarkable player- he can shoot from virtually anywhere on the court, he usually scores over half the team's points and he's got an amazing way of taking it to the net when he's not throwing 3's. and I admire that, I really do.

So why do I dislike him? Because he's all I hear about when it comes to BYU basketball. I think it's probably the little kid in me who just wants to shout 'BALL HOG' every time I see him, the part of me that dislikes one-man teams, and the part of me that can't stand it when the rest of the team gets shafted because of one player. So I guess it's not so much that I dislike him, it's more of the attention he gets.

Example: Tonight's game, BYU's defense was amazing, they blocked State like champs and I was impressed. It wasn't mentioned in the ESPN highlights, only Jimmer. Jimmer. Jimmer. Jimmer. Jimmer. Emery and Davies for 3.62 seconds. Jimmer. Jimmer. Jimmer.

The Jimmer Fredette Show. Jimmer Fredette University. You got Jimmered. Our mission is to convert you to Jimmerism. Jimmer is in range when he steps off the bus. Fredette about it. Thou shalt not covet Jimmer. Where is the rest of the team in all this? Unless they're all named Jimmer or some derivative therein, nowhere.

and for some reason, I just don't like that.

  2. yeah i was reading an article on espn about that, i agree that he's an amazing player and i don't dislike him for his talent or personality (rumour has it he's a way humble guy, which is good to hear), i just don't like that all the media for BYU basketball goes to him and not the team as a whole.
